You will be inspired by a dramatic reenactment of the 2nd Virginia Convention, and you will be challenged and refreshed by the stories and lessons of liberty from our nation’s founders. The Liberty Day Celebration has been hosted annually in the Chicago area for homeschool families for over 10 years, and they will be presenting a condensed version of Liberty Day for all the attendees of the Family Economics Conference. History of Liberty Day, from the Founders

In 1999, our family wrote and signed a resolution establishing the anniversary of Patrick Henry’s “Liberty or Death” speech, March 23, 1775, as a day for us and our posterity to set aside to bring to remembrance past defenders of Liberty, to stir into our hearts a deeper love for, and understanding of, Liberty, and to “beseech the Most High for Liberty in our day.”

Our first celebration saw just our family sitting around the living room, and had only one day of preparation (in the morning, Dad told to have something ready for that evening). Even small as it was, however, each individual brought something meaningful to share – Dad and the younger ones did a short semi-impromptu skit, the older ones brought poetry, letters, stories, and songs of liberty, remembrance, and honor. Together we laughed and cried as we recalled people and events from the Roman times, old Europe, the American War for Independence, through the Alamo to recent American struggles. Our evening ended with prayer and a firm resolution that this would happen again!

Since that time, each year has seen us enjoying great celebrations in which we have been joined by friends and family. Over the years we have found ourselves needing larger facilities as more people join us for this special event. The Liberty Day Celebration will include a selection of songs, stories, poetry, skits, speeches, dialogs, musical performances, and tributes all addressing Liberty – her principles, her history, and her defenders.

This year, the Liberty Day Celebration is being held on Saturday, March 10, 2012, in partnership with the Family Economics Conference. Registration for Liberty Day is complimentary with a Family Economics Registration.
